Vy Trần
Community Organizer, She/Her
When Vy Trần lived in Vietnam, she wanted to work in the healthcare field to help her community. However, she doubted herself and did not apply to her dream school. After moving to the U.S., she realized she had a second chance to follow her passion. Without hesitation, she pursued her bachelor’s degree in Public Health at San Francisco State University. At SFSU, she gained more knowledge and insight about public health challenges from different projects — one of them being the San Francisco Healthy Nail Project. The project helped shed light on many health-related issues in the nail industry that Vy did not recognize before.
Living in the Vietnamese community, Vy has heard many myths and misleading information related to health issues. She believes these myths and misleading information exist because we do not have equal access to all the resources and opportunities, especially healthcare and education. Vy firmly believes that to improve the quality of life for individuals and the community, we need to build equality for all, not just for some. Joining the California Healthy Nail Salon Collaborative during the COVID-19 pandemic motivates Vy to work harder to support the community.
