Nail Salon Art Contest 2021 Winners
In July 2021, The California Healthy Nail Salon Collaborative (CHNSC) partnered with the Vietnamese American Roundtable (VAR) to present Nail Salon Art Contest 2021: Strength, Safety, Solidarity. We invited artists to create art pieces that reflect the strength and humanity of the nail salon workforce and nail salon worker movement through ideas such as community care, healing, and solidarity. Through the art contest, we united against the rise of anti-Asian racism and violence towards healing and empowerment. We believe we have the power to shape and share our stories through our art and collectively uplift one another.

“The nail salon workforce silently but laboriously toils through each day of work breathing in harmful toxins, and washing the feet and hands of clients who want to have nice nails. They express themselves through the way they continue to work to make a living, they work through racism and inequality. I purposely used only black on white to show the silent simplicity."

“Những người thợ làm móng làm việc thầm lặng nhưng cần mẫn qua từng ngày hít thở những chất độc có hại, rửa chân tay cho những khách hàng muốn có bộ móng đẹp. Họ nói qua cách họ tiếp tục làm việc để kiếm sống, họ tiếp tục làm việc dầu có phân biệt chủng tộc và bất bình đẳng. Tôi cố ý chỉ sử dụng màu đen trên màu trắng để thể hiện sự đơn giảng của thầm lặng.”
