Dung Nguyễn
Organizing Manager, She/Her
Dung calls Orange County her home. In 2014, she received her Master of Public Health from Cal State Fullerton and began working with CHNSC the same year. She credits the beginning of her political journey to Hai Bà Trưng School for Organizing, Viet Unity’s 3-day training program for young progressive Vietnamese people.
Participating in this training helped Dung realize that she was not alone in feeling silenced by the traditional and conservative values commonly held by Vietnamese elders. She learned to acknowledge the intergenerational trauma that is present in the Vietnamese community and to approach mutual understanding by initiating open conversations and showing appreciation for elders and their struggles.
Dung is currently the Organizing Manager based in Orange and LA County. In addition to leading the recruitment and retention of members, Dung develops the curriculum for training, facilitates workshops and meetings, and leads community-based participatory research projects. A memorable moment for Dung was when a nail salon member asked her to be the godmother of her child. Dung’s hobbies include spending time with her loved ones, sports, eating, sleeping, traveling, reading, and going to the gym. Dung enjoys summer nights at a baseball game.
