Nina Hồ

Communications Coordinator, They/Them

Growing up in Garden Grove showed Nina the elaborate Vietnamese culture and traditions that thrived in their community but also the injustices they and their low-income, working-class community faced.

After suffering socioeconomic and gendered injustices from birth, Nina understands how important it is to protest loudly against inequities and advocate fiercely for people in their community and other underserved communities. Volunteering for non-profit organizations like the Vietnamese Student Association and Girls Inc. educated them in community building and effective mentorship.

Their intense determination to fight for liberation for all eventually led them to become CHNSC’s Communications Coordinator. Nina works with intentionality to highlight authentic and impactful stories of the people who keep the nail salon industry alive. Nina believes that effective community building always starts with curiosity and cultural sensitivity.

When Nina is not at the Collab, they can be found expanding their palate at local ethnic restaurants, searching for zany accessories at thrift shops, or seeking inspiration for their creative writing projects within different artistic and musical experiences… or rightfully sleeping in after any of those activities.

Besides the work you do at CHNSC, what makes you feel empowered?

“Watching drag shows and learning from drag performers’ artistry and performances — I love seeing unique makeup, fashion, and talents in the LGBTQ+ community!”
